Introducing Medicine Woman Lucrecia Rivera

Also known as Chimalma, she was born and raised in Mexico city. Ever since an early age she had found her passion in the healing arts. For more than 15 years she has been practicing Reiki and massage. Later in life while living in Canada she had the opportunity to interact with a number of first nations healers and elders assisting in ceremonies and rituals of various types. Thanks to this interaction she started learning and singing different ceremonial songs, including songs for healing.

She has been leading Temazcal / Sweatlodge ceremonies for over 10 years in the Mexica and Lakota traditions and started her Sundance 2 years ago in Mexico. She has danced the Moondance ceremony more than 10 times. And more recently lead a Moondance circle in France. In Mexico she has been following the medicine path of the Hikuri/Peyote with the Wirrarika/Huichol Marakames/Medicine men. We are so incredibly honoured to have this amazing Medicine woman join us to share her wisdom with the Temescal, healing songs and her skilled hands as a massage therapist.

Tigre’s Temazcal

At the Bwiti Living & Learning center, we have our own private Temazcal on our land that fits 10-20 people!!

What is a Temazcal?

temazcal is a type of low heat sweat lodge, which originated with pre-Hispanic Indigenous peoples in Mesoamerica.

In ancient Mesoamerica it was used as part of a curative ceremony thought to purify the body after exertion such as after a battle or a ceremonial ball game. It was also used for healing the sick, improving health, and for women to give birth. It continues to be used today in Indigenous cultures of Mexico and Central America that were part of the ancient Mesoamerican region for spiritual healing and health enrichment reasons. It is currently being recovered by all sectors of society in Mexico, Central America and the world is used as a cleansing and restorative balancing of mind, body and spirit.

What is Reiki?

Reiki is a form of alternative medicine called energy healing. Reiki practitioners use a technique called palm healing or hands-on healing through which a "universal energy" is said to be transferred through the palms of the practitioner to the patient in order to encourage emotional or physical healing.

Loucrecia will be joining us at The Bwiti Living & Learning Centre in the Mayan Riviera for some of our winter retreats. Attend a retreat to experience physical, emotional & spiritual healing.
