Is Iboga scary?

FAQ

For some reason, many people believe that Iboga is a very intense or scary medicine and have some fear about working with it.

This maybe due to certain accounts on the internet.

In our experience this is rarely ever the case.  Although we notice some people are scared before their first time working with the medicine, once the ceremony begins, usually the fear goes away, and the experience overall tends to be calm and peaceful.

Fear of loss of control:

There can be an experience of having loss of control with an iboga ceremony that some people may find scary.  Although motor coordination can be altered, with Iboga you feel quite in tune with yourself and your surroundings, while the medicine is taking its course, it is not a medicine that causes people to act or behave erratically or out of character.

Fear of facing the truth:

For others it is not the loss of control that is scary but facing the truth and seeing the lies they tell themselves. Things may come up that you have been in denial about / not seeing clearly.  Iboga helps you maintain a healthy perspective during this process. Your Provider and support team will also be there to help you move through things should anything challenging arise.

Fear of having a bad trip

Its very rare that someone has a bad trip taking Iboga in a Bwiti ceremonial setting under the care of a Shaman or Provider.

Most reports of bad trips are from people who experiment with taking ibogaine or Iboga by themselves at home or under the care of an untrained provider.   This is another reason we highly recommend you are using this incredibly powerful and potentially life-changing medicine under the supervision of a trained Nima (Bwiti Shaman) or highly trained Nganga (Bwiti Healer and Iboga Provider).

To make sure you have a safe and comfortable process,  do a proper health assessment prior to working with Iboga to.  Also, follow preparation guidelines and ensure you do not mix Iboga with drugs, pharmaceuticals, other plant medicines, or alcohol.  Interactions can cause risk.
